A few months back, I had a conversation with one of my seniors and he asked me what I was doing with my life. I answered, am a student and I presently focus on my course. He further asks what do you make out of your course? Only good grades I said. He continued asking what have your good grades brought you? This question puzzled me because I had no reply to it.
Grades predominantly stem from theoretical assessments rather than practical evaluations, emphasising their role as a measure of academic performance rather than practical skills.
For most of us, It is like storing what we have learnt without practising it or actualising it.
His last words were “Get the most beyond grades!!!” That ignited me with a few of my colleagues to start THE INSIGHT
That conversation taught me a great lesson and I know most of us are in the same situation as students whether we are making good grades or not.
Getting that degree is only, a fraction of what we need as students. Most of us have hidden talents and skills that we may not want to manifest due to procrastination or low self-esteem.
Let’s be real, we feel odd because we have nothing to do except go to classes, convincing ourselves we are making progress. Honestly, productivity does not match with you sitting down and doing nothing. We spend most of our time watching social media posts on TikTok, Facebook, Instagram etc. In the end, we want to be like those social media influencers forgetting that through social media they are making use of their lives while you are busy giving them likes and boosting the list of their followers.
THE INSIGHT suggests you try something to improve your talent or skill outside the classroom. We preach productivity, so THE INSIGHT urges you to start doing anything positive to keep you busy whether you are making an income from it now or not hence it adds value to you. Think of any idea and start manifesting it now. Stop procrastinating, begin hitting that nail and start making a difference. Most of us recognise our talents, We neglect to enhance them, and eventually, they wither within us. Skills can be anything to improve and add value to our lives, whether soft or hard.
Viscent Van Gogh a famous painter once said “What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?” Attempting to start something will make you 10 times more productive than you think. All you need to do is forget the fear of failure and negative comments.
You don’t necessarily need to start big but rather take your first step with the little you have and begin improving that skill. It can be your writing skills, communication skills, creativity, marketing and sales, be that entrepreneur you have always dreamt of becoming. Give time to improve that talent you have been ignoring.
It’s now or never, four years of chasing a degree with nothing to show at the end, not a skill or improved talents is a wish we don’t want.
All we need to know and do now is embrace growth beyond the walls of our classrooms. Grades are good but balancing education with personal development is better.
We urge you to Get the Most Beyond Academic Success
